The upkeep of an automator
Jan 7 2008, 4:02 PM EST
A simple equation i've done on my automator and i've found out that: upkeep of a single automator = total upkeep/number of automators = 0.2 So tell me am i wrong

It's not a bug, it's meant to be that. Low upkeep is the advantage of automators (although it's negated/compensated by the high cost [even though other hero types don't have a disadvantage to offset their advantage)

I thought each Automaton was supposed to cost 0.5 gold/hr, but I calculated it myself and it really is 0.5! Sweet... :P But for some reason, I seem to be losing a small number of units on an hourly basis, without being attacked. I thought Lust was a daily thing, not hourly!

What values did you use to get 0.5? as everyone else seems to be getting 0.2 (including me) My income / troops is 6475 gold / 32373 which is 0.2
Also, it's Rust, not Lust, and it is an hourly thing, not a daily thing. I don't know who writes this wiki, but its full of errors.

I meant 0.2. My bad. But still.. why am I losing units on an hourly basis even if I'm not attacked?

You're losing troops because of the rust effect, which removes an average of 0.15%* of your machina each hour *(an average of 0.15% as it seems to be random values in the range of 0.01% to 0.29%)
If you do the appropriate calculations, it turns out that rust can significantly increase the upkeep of machinas.(or is it 'machina'? is the plural the same as the singular, as it is for words like trout, and sheep?) The rust effect causes 0.15% losses of machina per hour, which will have to be replaced at a cost of 1100 gold per machina (100 for the original soldier, and 1000 for the upgrade). So it averages out at an extra upkeep of 0.15% x 1100 per hour, which is 1.65. Along with the 0.2, it becomes an upkeep of 1.85 gold per machina each hour.
If you are having trouble seeing how this works out, imagine having 10'000 machina. 0.15% are lost due to rust, which is 15 troops. Those 15 troops will cost 16'500 gold to replace (1100 x 15) So that's an additional upkeep of 16'500 gold for 10'000 machina, or 1.65 gold for 1 machina. (it is possible to lower this if you buy soldiers from a vendor, and buy troops with 25% barracks, which lowers the upkeep to 1.025 gold per machina each turn).

Ah thanks. I originally thought "Rust" was 1% of units going to recycling at 6am every day. I suppose they've changed that. Darn... they're making Automators less and less cheap :P (literally). Still, even with this rust effect, the machina upkeep is still lower than the upkeep of a General's elite unit, still rendering the Automator the superior Hero, IMHO.
