Reducing Losses from Landgrab

Landgrab is the primary means of expansion for many mages and a major source of annoyance to targeted kingdoms. In this page you will find suggestions to reduce its damage.

How can it be countered?
Barriers

Firstly, you could invest in Barriers. 25% of your acreage in barriers shields you against 75% of their attacks. Barriers are most useful to defense intensive classes as you are a prime target for landgrabbing because you are resistant to conventional attacks and are weak at retaling. Automaters should ALWAYS have high barriers to protect their expensive elites from fireballs.

Do not retaliate
The second way to counter landgrabbers is to make it more costly to landgrab you.

Many players attack the mage back with troops to retake their land.
This is unwise for two reasons
- One, they will not lose much from being attacked by a kingdom three times their size, they would lose a lot more if they were attacked by a kingdom a third of their size, bottomfeeding on them would help them by raising their alert level and thus protecting them against other kingdoms.
Two, attacking them leaves you open to other kingdoms, the returns would be better if you ignore the landgrabber and prey onsomeone the same acreage as you or higher.

This being said, kingdoms with a low attack such as a visionary might benefit from hitting them once as mages have a low defence. though attacking mages/'mongers around your level is usually more beneficial.

How to actively punish mages: Magic Vortex

*Note: This is only warranted if a mage does a mass landgrab (2 or more land grabs against the same target in 24 hours), or if the mage keeps coming back to the same target. Otherwise they view it as thier only real land gaining ability, and may see this action as an attempt to start a war. Use with care.

To maximise the effectiveness of your relatitory magic vortex, follow these steps
Wait 4 hours after the mages first attack. Most mages cast 5(6, with correct timing) landgrabs all at once every 5 hours. After 4 hours, the mage should have 400 mana, if you cast magic vortex, they'll lose 200 of that.(not bad for a 15mana spell)

If this strategy becomes widespread then mages will be forced into chosing high mana losses or being on plentiful every hour.
